Trial Presentation
Today we had a trial presentation to our tutor and we received feedback as we were going. For the most part we had a good presentation and was on the right track throughout. However one important piece of feedback I received was that the pitch needed a bit of changing. We were saying how we want to create a film trailer and the film with the prospect of it becoming an animated series on TV. However we were advised that our pitch should change to that we have been hired to create a film trailer along with the characters. So I altered our pitch to get it ready for the final presentation.

Fifth Team Meeting
Today we spent most of our time working out the order we were going to be talking in, as well as exactly what we are going to talk about. This was because next week we are going to be having a trial presentation so our tutor can see our progress and if we are prepared for the final presentation.
After some time of working out we eventually came up with this order:
I also needed to create a header sheet to present to the client which will give a brief overview of what we are pitching.

Fourth Team Meeting
We began today being shown the first draft of the storyboard that Kelsey had drawn up. This storyboard was an accurate representation of what we wanted to achieve in terms of style. The drawings don't have much detail in them and backgrounds are also quite simple.
With the rough character models out of the way this also allowed Lorne to begin a 3D model for him to present to the client. The model is going to be made in a program called Autodesk Mudbox.
Today I also created a mood board to show our style and influences as well as our colour scheme. As I didn't really know how to lay out a mood board I did a little bit of research into how to lay one out. I found this website and it really helped me understand what I needed to do as it gave plenty examples and some explanations.
Mood Boards
Earlier I also showed off a digital version of the company's logo. We needed a digital version for some of the paperwork we were giving to the client, for example an invoice needed the logo. At first I wasn't sure which colour the cloud should be so I asked the team what colour they preferred, in the end we all agreed it should be blue.
The last thing I done today was gather together a collection of animations that each member had created in the past. This was done because I intend to create a showreel of our work to present to the client. Showing the client some of our past work is to hopefully convince them that we are able to create good quality animations and that we won't be wasting their work.

Third Team Meeting
The first thing I brought up at the tea meeting today was that I believe that the synopsis we had come up with was better suited to be the story for a movie. We could then pitch that, depending on the success of the film, a TV series could potentially follow afterwards. The team agreed that this was the better option and this meant that Kelsey could draw the storyboard for the film trailer.
We then went onto decide what kind of animation style we plan to use as well as defining what media we plan to create the movie in. Currently 3D animation has been on a huge rise and we've already seen a number of hugely successful 3D animations in film, the most recent one would be Frozen. 3D also has advantages over 2D so its in our best interest to explore that. However, in the end, we decided that our animation should predominately be 2D based but will include some form of 3D animation. Also 2D animation will suit the style we aim for, which is plain and simple yet with vibrant colours. A very detailed animation would not only be time consuming, it will also cost a lot due to the extra manpower we will need. Also kids aren't necessarily too interested into heavily detailed characters and settings, so a simple style with bright colours will be more beneficial in attracting our audience.
Tron completed rough sketches of each character to present which meant Kelsey was able to complete the storyboard. He provided us with a variety of sketches.
- Discussion about changing the idea from TV Pilot to a Movie Tralier
- What style of animation we plan to use
- How the character designs have come along

Second Team Meeting
Today we decided on a name for our company as well as the logo. Kelsey brought in a few suggestions and as a group we decided on Studio Nimbus. We also decided on the logo which was of a Nimbus cloud that also had a friendly face on it.
Afterwards we needed to progress our idea further and I deemed that the characters were most important at this point in time as the storyboard can't be made without them. This led us into a debate on how we should come up with the characters. Since it was quite hard to just create a character on the spot, it was decided that our character designer should personify sea-creatures and use the team members as the basis for this. That meant we needed to decide what sea-creature should represent each team member.
In the end we had decided on:
Once the characters had been decided we went onto brainstorming a synopsis for the TV series. We wanted a reoccurring theme as this is what is usually consistent within the popular kids TV shows and decided that our antagonists would be attempting to steal a specific item. We came to this idea from using Spongebob Squarepants as an influence. The main antagonist, Plankton, is constantly attempting to steal a formula.
Synopsis (currently):
The antagonists (Myself and Lorne) have stolen a sacred treasure map from the protagonists town (Kelsey, Tron and Alejandro) and they have been hired to retrieve the stolen goods before the secrets are unearthed.

First team meeting
- Deciding roles depending on strengths and weaknesses
- Rough idea of the animation we plan too pitch
- Description of what my role is
Dean - Director / Animator
Alejandro - Producer
Tron - Character & Environment Designer
Kelsey - Storyboard Artist
Lorne - 3D Animator / Modeller
We decided that these roles are best suited to everyone's abilities whilst also making sure that the balance of work is spread evenly across the five of us. It was decided that I would be the Director for this project, Alejandro would be the Producer, Tron will design the characters and environments, Kelsey is in charge of creating the Storyboard and Lorne will be a 3D Animator and Modeller.
Currently our idea for a pitch is a film trailer or a pilot episode for a kids TV show. We aim to attract an audience ranging from 6-14 year olds, however it's likely that old audiences will watch our show as well. To achieve this we aim to, one, have humour that is suitable for younger audiences and, two, we plan to use bright interesting colours for our colour scheme.
Examples we plan to take influences from are:
- Spongebob Squarepants
- Adventure Time
- Fairly Odd Parents
- How to Train a Dragon
